Novelty 2026: Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS 1 Diesel Railcar for Passenger TransportThe Stadler Regio-Shuttle RS 1 is a diesel railcar for regional passenger services, widely recognized for its versatility and distinctive design featuring trapezoidal window bands. In Germany, the vehicles are classified as Class 650 and continue to shape regional traffic for numerous railway operators. Development of the Regio-Shuttle began in 1994 at the VÚKV Research Institute for Rail Vehicles in Prague on behalf of ABB Henschel and AEG Rail Vehicles. After the merger of both companies in 1996, the project was continued by Adtranz. Following Bombardier Transportation’s acquisition of Adtranz in 2001, production was transferred to Stadler Rail due to antitrust regulations. The first series vehicles were delivered in 1996, including four units with a floor height of 760 mm, which have since operated reliably on the Schönbuchbahn. The Deutsche Bahn introduced a total of 79 Regio-Shuttle vehicles in 1999, initially used by DB ZugBus Regionalverkehr Alb-Bodensee (RAB) from Tübingen, Friedrichshafen, and Ulm.
