Novelty 2026: Starting in 1958, Pafawag in Wroc?aw began serial production of the first Polish freight electric locomotive. Two prototypes and the first 18 production units were extensively tested, which led to design modifications in the following initial 70 units. By 1971, a total of 658 locomotives of this type had been delivered. The machines, approved for a top speed of 100 km/h, were designed to haul a 2,400-ton freight train on level track at 70 km/h. The ET21 was for a long time seen on virtually all electrified routes in Poland. However, with the increasing numbers of ET22 locomotives, the ET21s were gradually pushed further south. Originally, the ET21s were scheduled to be retired by 2002, but they remained in service much longer and are still partially in use by private operators. Various pipes and roof structures are separately mounted. The handrails on the PIKO ET21 are also separately fitted. Etched tread plates and windshield wipers on the front of the locomotive complete the visually striking model. Thanks to the prototype-accurately arranged side windows, the recreated machinery room can be admired. It can be digitally illuminated at the push of a button. As is typical with PIKO Expert new constructions, the cab lighting is also digitally switchable. The model comes equipped with a PSD XP Sound Decoder.
