Novelty 2026: The T 9.3 was a robust tank locomotive that proved equally successful in passenger and freight service. With a top speed of 65 km/h, it was among the most powerful locomotives of its time and became one of the most widely built locomotives in Germany. From 1901 onward, the Prussian State Railways procured more than 2,000 examples of this proven type from the Königsberg Union Foundry. The Imperial Railways of Alsace-Lorraine also relied on the T 9.3 and ordered an additional 132 locomotives. In 1925, the Deutsche Reichsbahn took over the majority of these vehicles and classified them as Class 91. During their long service life, many locomotives were transferred abroad, including to Czechoslovakia and Poland. After the Second World War, numerous examples remained in Germany, where they reliably served until the 1960s and 1970s. With its combination of power, versatility, and solid engineering, the T 9.3 still symbolizes the engineering excellence of the early steam locomotive era— a true workhorse on the rails that made history.
