The locomotives of the series 52 from the German Reichsbahn are the best known of the so called war locomotives. More than 7.000 units were built starting in 1942 and planned were a total of 15.000 locomotives. After the war another 300 units were built from existing parts. Also after 1945 the locomotives were indispensable in many parts of Europe during reconstruction.
