DB AG procured two types of driving trailer for InterCity transport. The 75 units of type Bpmbdzf 296 (originally Bpmbdzf 297) are pressurised and air-conditioned, have swivel sliding doors and open-plan seating. In contrast to type Bimdzf 271, the side members have aerodynamic skirts.
