Prototype:
The Vossloh DE 18 is a class of diesel-electric locomotives for heavy shunting and mainline service with the Bo? Bo? built by Vossloh Rolling Stock. These are the first diesel-electric locomotives from the former MaK plant in Kiel since the discontinuation of production of the DE 1002 in 1993.
With this machine, the PIKO designers have once again succeeded in converting a prototype into size H0 with flying colours. The result is a model that excellently reproduces the overall appearance as well as the peculiarities of the DE 18 and has a large number of details, including extremely three-dimensional engravings of the ventilation grilles and bogies with an excellent visual depth effect. The powerful motor with two flywheels ensures smooth running, and the tractive force is increased by two diagonally arranged traction tires. In combination with a digital decoder, many prototypical light functions can be switched. The attractive driver's cab and driver's desk lighting is already part of the good form for PIKO Neukonstruktionen. For uncomplicated retrofitting of a decoder, a modern PluX22 interface is available on the tidy circuit board.
