MARKLIN "Franco-Crosti" 2001 Insider Model

Marklin has announced a second insider model this year as a European model alternative to the BIG BOY. It is the "Franco-Crosti" Class 42.90 (
#39160), which was designed and built in the early 1950's around a special process (created by Italian engineers Franco and Crosti) that used the heat from the smokestack exhaust gases to preheat water for the boiler. This energy saving process lowered the coal consumption of the locomotive and gave the locomotive its unique looks with two smokestacks on either side of the boiler, halfway along the locomotive. The 'original' smokestack is used for firing up the boiler only.
Henschel built two of these locomotives and they served throughout the 1950's. The process was not as efficient as hoped but was successful enough that it was later used on the class 50 locomotives.

This model is a one-time series in 2001 for Insider members only.

Order deadline for Insider Club Members: January 31, 2002. ORDER SOON
Delivery is planned for the beginning of 2002.
