A very sad day in Nurnberg

We are sad to report that a fire destroyed the roundhouse of the DB-Museum Nrnberg last night. This museum was home to an amazing collection of German railroad history and the collection had a number of one-of-a-kind museum locomotives, many in working condition, including a Class 45 steamer and the Adler historic engine. Luckily no one was hurt and some locomotives such as the Bavarian S 2/6 and the 05 001 were not at the museum at the time of the fire. At this point it looks like the rest of the collection is a complete loss. At this point the cause of the fire is unknown.

The loss of this collection is especially sad as we had visited the museum during our recent trip to Germany. Our friend Peter Bomhard, whose popular railroad art prints we feature on our site, was at the museum doing research only hours before it was destroyed.
