Is this the New Marklin Central Station? UPDATE - Yes it is!

Update: Marklin has confirmed that this is the new Central Station that is currently under development. No further details regarding features or release dates are available right now but as always we will post something as soon as we hear it.

What could be the new Marklin Central Station (CS2) has shown up on the website of the Red Dot Design awards(click the link to visit their site in a new window), a prestigious international award for product design. The site shows a Central Station with a stylish new case but a familiar layout of controls. A close look at the high-resolution images shows a supposedly color screen with a much higher resolution (more detailed) screen than the 1st generation Central Station. Here is what the Red Dot site has to say about it;

The Central Station 2 is a digital control unit for Marklin model railways of the new generation. Its design communicates a high degree of functionality as well as stringent brand identity, reflected in the traditional colours red and grey as well as in a user-friendly shaping. The unit includes a clearly arranged colour touch screen as well as numerous operation options with which different trains can be directed along the tracks at the same time, while functions such as sound, lighting, switching tracks and setting signals can be controlled with the unit, down to the steam of a locomotive. These features are controlled with two sets of eight softkeys to the right and left of the screen. The wing-shaped silhouette of the unit is based on its operation: all control elements are arranged symmetrically in the centre, thus directing the focus to the keys, rotary knobs and monitor. This focus is additionally supported by the colour scheme, which optically connects the red rotary knobs to the monitor via an anthracite-coloured element.

Marklin has not made any announcements about a new Central Station yet and there is no guarantee that this is what the final product will look like. However this is a rare chance to take a peek at what could be a major new product from Marklin.
