The Class III was the first locomotive built in Wurtemburg for the K.W.ST.E.. This took place in 1847, 2 years after the founding iof the State Railroad Company. As a passenger locomotive, it was assigned the city name Esslingen . With its all around good running characteristics, this locomotive even proved itself on the Geislingen Grade. This type of locomotive was the image of the Wurttemberg railroad in the Fils Valley right into the the 1860's.

They were a daily sight for Theador Friedrich Willhelm Marklin in 1859 when he started production of metal toys in Goppingen. For that reason, this model has been chosen as the 140th Anniversary Model of Marklin's existence as a company. This model is being produced at great cost with exceptionally fine detailing.
